Sunday's Coming
Featherstone predictions
Featherstone Rovers have had a season of shock and awe. Awesome at home, they remain the only side to have defeated Salford. Away, both shocking and awful. Their form on the road has haunted them all season, culminating in defeat at resurgent Batley last week.
Most amazing fact of last week?s defeat was that Richard Chapman was kept off the scoresheet! Love him or hate him, you can?t deny that he has a nose for a try - and, in Rovers? recent win against Whitehaven he cruised past his career century. There?s no doubting Chapman?s inspiratiohnal qualities, so I?ll be heckling him respectfully on Sunday.
Elsewhere Fev have a side full of experience and nous. Nathan Graham, Jamie Stokes, Brendan O?Meara, Adrian Flynn and James Ford make-up a formidable backline - and with teenager Danny Patrickson standing in for injured out-half Richard Whiting last week, it seems that the famous Featherstone conveyor belt is still up and running.
At scrum half, Carl Briggs will steer the big Rovers pack around the field - with Ian Tonks partnered at prop by Rovers? own goal-kicking points machine Stuart Dickens.
Hornets fans will breath a sigh of releif at the return of rugby genius Radney Bowker. Our understanding is that his loan period only covers the remaining two league fixtures - I hope that I?ve misinterpreted that.
Hally will take a look at David Stephenson, Marlon Billy and Matt Calland before deciding on his line-up.
But whichever 13 he names, we?d struggle to go much worse than we did at Salford. After flickering briefly, Hornets sputtered out as confidence waned, tackles loosened and our shape gradually went to bits. So a swift return to form is needed.
On our day, Hornets can play as well as any team in the National League and a win on Sunday against such tough opposition will be a significant boost to spirits ahead of the playoffs.
Sunday?s will be a good old-fashioned, no-quarter-asked tussle. National League Rugby league at its best. Featherstone keen to lay their away-form ghost; Hormets keen to re-establish thie rhythm - both sides with plenty to play for.
So get yourself to Spotland - it will be a belter. See you there.
