Burn Flipper burn: Dolph-inferno
Ex-Hornet in aquatic mammal-conflagration boat trip horror!
You may have seen the bizarre news over the weekend about allegations surrounding Widnes stand off Julian O'Neil's behaviour on a boat trip in Australia.
It’s been reported that the Aussie player attempted to set fire to a teenager’s Dolphin costume whilst on a pleasure cruise (an accusation hotly denied by O'Neil).
The man running the boat trip - and the guy who made the complaints in a letter to the press - was none other than ex-Hornets prop (and captain) Gerry Byron!
Captain Gerry’s story about the trip features in the February edition of Rugby League World (out this Friday, Jan 30). Their Australian correspondent Malcolm Andrews was on the boat trip and did an interview with Byron. The interview also includes a particularly notable story about Neil Cowie when he had a spell with Byron's club in Australia.
No - we don’t know what that’s about either. But it sounds interesting.
February’s Rugby League World also includes a fantastic two-page feature on Bobbie Goulding - so rush out and buy it (we usually move the other copies on the shelf in front of ‘Rugby World’ - or move *nion publications into the Gay Interest section, while we’re at it!).
