British Millerain step down 15/11/2004 In the know
British Millerain step down
One of British sport’s longest running sponsorship deals is being downsized to allow for business development.

British Millerain has been Rochdale Hornets’ club sponsor for 15 years and, in that time their name has become as much a part of the club’s jersey as its famous red, white and blue hoops.

British Millerain Chairman Michael Miller said of the decision; "We’re proud to have been associated with Rochdale Hornets for such a long period. We’ve seen some real ups and downs - but Rugby League takes some beating for passion and excitement, and we’re happy to have had such a long-term involvement in our home-town club."

He went on: "At British Millerain we are entering an important period in our company’s development, so we have decided to concentrate on that."

Hornets’ Chairman Ray Taylor said: "In a world where shirt sponsors come and go, British Millerain’s long term support of the Hornets has been invaluable. On behalf of everyone at Hornets I thank Michael Miller and Lawrence Dutton for their long-standing support and wish them well for the future."

But the British Millerain name won’t disappear from the Hornets’ jersey just yet. Downscaling its sponsorship to concentrate on its core business, the Rochdale-based company will bring its involvement with the club to a close with a three year secondary sponsorship deal; its name appearing elsewhere on the club’s shirt.

Hornets’major new main sponsorship deal will be announced later this week.
