Sunday's Coming!
This Sunday sees the first of two titanic clashes of the Cas Killers.
New Coach Justin Morgan brings a side that's desperate to shake off the burden of living in the shadow of Hull FC. But last time out they choked at home to fellow promotion contenders Whitehaven, having tossed away a 14-nil lead to lose to a late, late Mick Nanyn try.
Whilst not a team of stars, Rovers do run big on passion and commitment, but it's the half-back partnership of James Webster and Paul Mansson that turns the Robins into a real force to be reckoned with.
Up front, the undisputed man-to-watch is blockbusting Papuan prop Makali Aizue. This bloke's a one man tank division and if you give him half a yard he'll still run right over the top of you for the sheer bloody hell of it. Pacy, solid and with good hands Aizue will need wrapping up from the off if Hornets are to cut off the supply of second phase ball to the half-backs.
Hornets will be looking to build on the huge confidence gained from the win at Doncaster. Having outpaced and out muscled the big Dragons six, the Hornets pack looked mean and mobile. But at a cost. Missing this week is Jon Hill who broke his hand at Doncaster.
This opens a door of oportunity for Dave Newton and Kris Radcliffe who both deserve a shot at cementing a place in the team.
Certainly Phil Cantillon's return to the side was a major factor in Hornets' transformation. His perpetual motion style gives the side the go-forward and momentum that enables us to play expansive, confident football.
Elsewhere, Chris Giles will be close to a return, leaving Bobbie Goulding with a selection headache in the threequarters as he tries to shoehorn Giles, Paul Owen, Dave Alstead, Mark McCully, Chris Campbell, Nicky Royle and Sam Butterworth into the available spots.
Of all the teams vying for a good playoff berth, Hornets have the most onerous run-in. Hull KR and Whitehaven a real test of our intent. But we've seen already this year that we've nothing to fear from the 'big guns' of NL1 at home.
Recently, games against Hull KR have been tight, physical and a bit spicy. And this one will be no different.
Hull KR come desperate to put together some form for the playoffs, so the pressure is on them to perform: the weight of expectation at Craven Park is palpable even at this distance. Hornets just need to keep winning to keep 4th place in our sights.
Now we're at the sharp end of the season, we find out which side really have the bottle for it - and, make no mistake, this game is cruciual for both teams. With Cas and Whitehaven busy relegating Featherstone and Batley respectively, this is by far the contest of the day in NL1: and you have a vital part to play.
As always, your support is vital if we're to give the lads the lift they need. We were tremendous at Doncaster and need to replicate that level of vocal effort on Sunday - because the Robins' fans will certainly be giving it everything they've got.
You've got no excuses. You'd be absolutely mad to miss this one. Just ask the people who booked their holidays around the Cas game how bad it feels.
See You Sunday.
