Hornets v Batley
Hornets’ coach Darren Abram has praised his squad after they agreed to pay cuts that would help keep Rochdale on an even financial footing earlier this week.

Abram said: “It shows the dedication of the players. They’re willing to stand by each other, the club and myself.”

Now Abram is focussing on improving his side’s on-field performances. He said: “Last week there was a lack of confidence and cohesion.

“I’m trying to get through to them that they are good players and that we can still make the top six, but it’s got to start this week.”

Batley, who lost 58-8 to Halifax last week, are also hoping to put a difficult period behind them.

Bulldogs’ boss Gary Thornton said: “We’ve shown them the Halifax video and where we thought the players were going wrong, but we’ve got to put it to bed and we’ve drawn a line under it now.

“We’ve got to improve the basic skills – handling and completion rates.”

Thornton’s squad will be boosted by the arrival of Huddersfield Giants’ youngster Thomas Hemmingway on a one-month loan deal.

Thornton added: “Both sides are looking to start the season and get on a roll and we certainly won’t be underestimating them.” The Rugby Football League :
