Anderson and Johnson released
Patterson joins Halifax : Widnes Vikings v Rochdale HornetsVikings’ coach Steve McCormack is hoping his side’s impressive victory over Castleford in last week’s Northern Rail Cup semi final can help Widnes get back to winning ways in Co-operative National League One.
McCormack said: “It was great to get to the Northern Rail Cup final but now we must concentrate on the league.
“We’ve got a very big game this weekend, given the fact that we lost our last league game. We need to get back on track.”
Damien Blanch is a slight doubt with a back problem but is expected to be fit for Sunday’s clash.
Hornets’ coach Darren Abram is down to the bare bones after three players left the club this week.
Lee Patterson will take up a contract at another Co-operative National League One club while Abram has reluctantly had to release Paul Anderson and Nick Johnson.
Abram said: “As a coach I don’t want to get rid of anybody, but unfortunately that has had to happen this week.”
Mark McCully (knee) and Craig Robinson (shoulder) are likely to feature in Hornets’ U21s fixture this week.
Abram added: “This year we’ve had a couple of bad losses against teams we should have beaten and that would have pushed us further up the table. We’ve done some good stuff and then we’ve done some awful stuff – we need more consistency.”
Rest of the matches.
