U21's v Fev. match report 30/07/2007 Mark Reynolds
HORNETS U21’S 42 FEATHERSTONE ROVERS 4

Hornets U21’S got back to winning ways on Saturday with a spectacular win against Featherstone Rovers getting new Coach Neil Flanagan off to a flying start. The game was staged at Littleborough Rugby Union Club in front of a very healthy contingent of Hornets fans.

It was Rovers who were first onto the scoreboard with an early try but after that it was Hornets who dominated the rest of the game going onto score seven tries.

Former Oldham stand off Gareth Barber was instrumental in everything Hornets created on attack and gave the team the on field guidance that had been missing in recent weeks.

Hornets dominated the first half for long periods but only had an Eric Johnson try and a Snyed goal to show for their efforts. 6 – 4 was the half time score.

The second half was a completely different affair with Hornets running in six tries without reply included a hat trick from centre Craig Highton. Other tries came from Barber, Michael Brown and Carl Snyed.

Carl Snyed finished with a personal points haul of 18 after having a splendid day with the boot kicking 7 goals.

Gareth Barber won the man of the match award but was pushed all the way by Danny Samuals who had returned from a loan spell at Hunslet earlier in the week. Full back Alan Williamson put in a solid performance and loanee Jodie Sherriffe did enough to earn a bench spot the following day.

This win was a welcome boost for the U21’s squad after a moral sapping last couple of weeks were confidence had been low with the team down to the bare bones in terms of Player availability.

The next match for the U’21’s is away at Widnes on Tuesday 7th August. The venue for the game is Widnes Rugby Union Club 7.00pm kick off.
