Villeneuve 25/02/2001 Our Man at the Match
Villeneuve scored three tries in 12 minutes in the second half to snub out the Hornets. Final score 19-26. We started well as Mick Coates set up Danny Wood for a run down the left. Wood, passed to O'Meara in plenty of space and he easily crossed over.

Hornets had most of the ball at the start on a pitch still showing the newly fallen snow.

Villeneuve dropped it far too many times to make any impact.

But Daniel Vergniol scored a try after about half an hour to bring them back in it.

We blew plenty of opportunities before Banquet kicked to the left and Vergniol pounced past 2 defenders to go under the posts. The goal was kicked.

Marlon Billy brought the teams level just before the break with Wood converting.

After the break Hornets went up a gear and went into a 19-10 lead. A Darren Robinson try, converted by Wood, and a Wood penalty goal for a high tackle on Coates plus a Coates drop goal.

This was the end of Hornets as Villeneuve produced the goods when it mattered.

Man-of-the-match Artie Shead scored with a converted try, followed by another try for Chad Dillinger. Gilles Cornut's converted try finished us off.

Will we have to wait another 30 years for a better chance of reaching the quarter final? I hope not!
