Sunday's coming by Jim. Widnes predictions are here
Right then, down to business. Sunday sees Hornets first foray into NFP playoff football at the Autoquest Stadium, Widnes. Neil Kelly's Vikings have had a bit of a hoodoo over Hornets this season. After stealing past us in a dire game at Spotland, they caught us on a real off-day and sailed past us in the return match. So is it a case of third time lucky for Hornets? Undoubtedly, both Widnes and Hornets have improved as the season's progressed. The advent of Neil Kelly and the choice of his former Rams players has had a marked effect on the Vikings' performances. Whilst last-pass walk-in maestro Phil Cantillon continues to rack up the tries, the more cinical might well suggest that a run-in against Hunslet, York and Chorley leaves Widnes ever so slightly fresher for Sunday's encounter. But you, play with what you're dealt. Hornets couldn't possibly play as badly as we did the last time at the former Naughton Park - and even that day we managed 18 points - and with a full complement to choose from, Martin Hall will have his troops ready to go. Danny Sculthorpe and Matt Calland return to give the side some much needed physical presence and, to date, everyone else is ready to go. Good. And you too have a role to play in this. If you've watched Hornets this season at any point, you really should be there. I accept that we're not the biggest supported club in the division, but I genuinely believe we have quality over quantity. And we proved at Oldham on Good Friday that, when we stick together, we can have a tangible, positive effect on the lads. So let's do it this Sunday. You may have read of the seating situation at Widnes on the message board. We CAN go in the South Stand - the main stand - but we have to buy tickets for specified seats. So we'll see you in the car park outside the main stand at 1.45-2.00 and we'll go and get our tickets together. That way we won't be spread all over the ground and we stand a better chance of not being shouted down by the four and a half thousand Widnes fans that have spent the last five years' worth of Sunday afternoons in B&Q or IKEA. Be there on Sunday. This is a biggy and your club needs you. | |||
